The SSC JE examination process is divided into two papers: Paper-I and Paper II. Paper-I is a computer-based test comprising multiple-choice questions, testing candidates' general intelligence, reasoning ability, and technical knowledge of their respective engineering disciplines.
There are mainly three sections: General Intelligence and Reasoning, consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions of 50 marks, General Engineering, which contains 100 multiple-choice questions of 100 marks; and General Awareness which has a total of 50 multiple-choice questions of 50 marks total. So paper-I is 200 marks in total. Negative markings are also followed in paper 2.
On the other hand, Paper II is a descriptive paper where candidates must attempt a question paper with 300 marks in 2 hours in pen and paper mode. Paper 2 is a conventional exam with no negative marking; candidates must choose the subject from Part A- Civil & Structural Engineering, Part B- Electrical Engineering, or Part C- Mechanical Engineering.
